Designed for use on tablets in Physics classrooms, Cloud Chamber Simulation displays the ionisation tracks formed by charged particles in vapour. Touch and drag to change the viewing angle. As well as cosmic background radiation, you can select an alpha, beta or proton source and move it around the chamber. You can also turn on magnetic or electric fields to see how they affect the various particles. You can also enable or disable the visual condensation effect.Current particles simulated: - alpha (short, thick tracks) - beta (thin, meandering tracks as the particles scatter from collisions with air) - muon (thin and straight, but may bend or fork to indicate decay or collision) - proton (straight with small 'delta rays' emitted along the track)
This app is aimed to educate rather than be totally physically accurate, but feel free to inform the developer if you feel there is a notable inconsistency between the simulation and reality.
NEW IN VERSION 1.1:- Improved performance of particle system. Graphics settings lower than Fantastic now have different particle effects.- Added an informative loading screen. This can be accessed from the Settings screen.- Added a magnetic field mode which uses real world sensor data (so for example you can hold a magnet near the device). Warning: this is experimental and might not act realistically on all devices.- Added new Hint options to display field data or live info about particles.
